Guided tours are provided depending on the schedule of events and other tours on the day requested. Guided tours of the Indiana War Memorial Museum begin anytime between 9:30 AM and 3:00 PM, with an average duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes. At the Colonel Eli Lilly Civil War Museum, guided tours begin anytime between 11:00 AM and 3:30 PM, with an average duration of 45 minutes. Tour groups should register well in advance to ensure that their preferred date and time is available.
Guided tours can be formatted to meet the specific needs and interests of the group. If given advance notice, presentations featuring living historians can be arranged to help immerse students in, and educate them about, Indiana's military history. Additionally, correlation between specific historical topics being studied in the classroom and relevant exhibits within the museum can be made upon request.
Boy Scout Troops are encouraged to call and arrange a visit to the USS Indianapolis (CA-35) Radio Room, which is located in the lobby of the Indiana War Memorial. Through the instruction of the gentlemen who operate this exhibit, scouts have the opportunity to advance toward a Merit Badge in Radio.
Veteran group guided tours may be provided during non-operating hours depending on the availability of docents. To schedule a guided tour, please contact 317.233.0528
