American Legion 500 Festival Memorial Service
Please join us for the American Legion 500 Festival Memorial Service. The service will embrace a very important holiday amid its Month of May festivities – Memorial Day – and a weekend to remember the sacrifices made by Indiana men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice and who perished while serving in the armed forces and defending the United States.
The American Legion 500 Festival Memorial Service will include the posting of colors by the Military Department of Indiana’s Joint Service Color Guard and performances by the Capital City Chorus and the Indiana National Guard’s 38th Infantry Division Band.
A wreath-laying ceremony and tolling of the USS Indianapolis CA-35 bell, dedicated to the memory of all Hoosiers who sacrificed their lives in defense of the nation in all wars and conflicts, will take place. A cortege will be presented by the Indiana National Guard Headquarters Ceremonial Unit, followed by a caparisoned horse. The Service will then close with a flyover.
We hope you will be a part of the hundreds who will gather at the Indiana War Memorial in downtown Indianapolis to honor Indiana’s military personnel who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
